Overview

Breath of the Wild

Blood Moons occur at midnight on nights when Calamity Ganon's power reaches its pinnacle and escapes from Princess Zelda'due south command within Hyrule Castle,[iv] [1] dyeing the dark sky and the Moon reddish with Malice.[3] The effects of this Malice revive any fallen monsters and enemies, returning them to where they once were prior to beingness slain. In improver to reviving enemies and Overworld Bosses, Ore Deposits are replenished, and Materials ranging from plants and copse, to gear left lying in the field, effectively respawn, allowing Link to collect them over again if the ones he took before the Blood Moon broke in the interim period. Mechanically, Blood Moons are a way to refresh Breath of the Wild'south long-term retentiveness and appear to purge the game's cache. Consequently, data stored within the game's long-term memory is reset, including the presence or lack of Materials and Weapons. Blood Moons do not touch things handled through curt-term memory, such as Creatures, Grass, Trees, and Barrels. Claret Moons too do non affect storyline progression, side quests, and major bosses such as Primary Kouga and the Bosses inside the Divine Beasts. Blood Moons typically occur after roughly 3 hours of gameplay, although one tin be induced if the player kills vast amounts of enemies and picks up vast amounts of boodle in a brusque time. If you are in the middle of a boss fight and a claret moon appears, the boss's health is completely regenerated, causing yous to accept to start from the start. Claret Moons tin exist interrupted by entering specific areas such as Ancient Shrines and Hyrule Castle before midnight, though the game will merely endeavour to spawn one the adjacent dark. Blood Moons are always represented by a total Moon regardless of which stage the Moon is in.

The effects of the Blood Moon begin around eleven:30 PM, though the Blood Moon itself can commonly be seen as early as 10:00 PM when the Moon rises into the sky. At 11:30 PM, Malice will ascent from the footing, like when Link is aboard a corrupted Divine Beast, effectually Pools of Malice, or on the grounds of Hyrule Castle. At eleven:50 PM, the sky will turn red, and the clouds will begin to fly by very fast. When midnight hits, a cutscene begins where the Blood Moon has risen, and monsters are seen respawning beyond Hyrule. Princess Zelda telepathically informs Link that the Blood Moon has risen and urges Link to be conscientious. Afterwards that, the Blood Moon dissipates.[5] If Link attempts to circumvent a Blood Moon by staring into a Bivouac or sleeping in a Bed, the cutscene will still play. This can affright players who have let their guard down, as the sudden loud roar and glow of cerise can catch them off guard. Also if Link passed time staring at a campfire in an empty enemy campsite, the sudden resurrection of the enemies can catch him off guard.

Hino of the Dueling Peaks Stable is the main source of information on Claret Moons, and can exist seen acting strangely during the time period that it affects the overworld. The histrion can know during the day if tonight will be a Blood Moon, as if they enquire Hino what moon will be out tonight, he'll say; "I'grand getting that feeling again... Something is going to happen tonight. I can taste it."

Cooking during this time gives Food an effect heave.[six] This time period tin be easily identified, every bit specks of Malice linger in the air for those 45 minutes, or by determining if Hino is all the same acting strange. If he has returned to normal, the result has worn off, and Link must expect for the next Blood Moon.

Other Appearances

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

During the Scenario "All Hyrule, United", a Blood Moon rises following the Divine Beasts bombarding Calamity Ganon with their lasers after Zelda banished the protective barrier[seven], reviving all monsters that were slain during the grade of the battle, then revived half of the monsters after they were re-killed past the Warriors. After the united forces of Hyrule bankrupt through the Cataclysm'due south forces, the Blood Moon remained in the heaven until Cataclysm Ganon was sealed once more.

Following the completion of the concluding Scenario and the starting time of the postgame, Blood Moons start appearing. They turn Scenarios into Blood Moon Battlefields [8]. These Blood Moon Battlefield events raise the enemies of past Scenarios, i Scenario per waxing, changing the icon of the additional Scenario into a Blood Moon icon, raises the recommended levels by up to sixfold, and colors the map with a crimson filter. It too improves the quality of Weapon drops, and increases their frequency.

When a Blood Moon rises, it changes the map theme to its "Amid the Calamity" version[9]. Other than doubling the Rupee counts after completing the Scenario battles, including the Divine Beast combat segments, zippo else changes.

It is up to random take chances which Scenarios becomes a Blood Moon Battlefield, and the frequency of the Blood Moon waxing is erratic, ranging from a Blood Moon rising immediately after clearing a Blood Moon Battlefield to after several battles. Potentially, a Blood Moon could rise over the same Scenario twice in a row. If players get to Challenge maps or other Scenario maps, it resets the Blood Moon Battleground.

Trivia

  • An odd exception to the Blood Moon failing to trigger at midnight while in Hyrule Castle is during the first fight confronting Calamity Ganon. If midnight strikes on a Blood Moon night during this commencement battle, Calamity Ganon's health volition refill to maximum as if neither Link nor the Divine Beasts had done him any impairment. Strangely, this exception does not apply to the battle confronting Dark Animate being Ganon.
  • Sometimes, a glitch tin can occur where a Blood Moon occurs during 12;00 PM rather than 12;00 AM. This tin can be due to the in time game clock suffering a glitch. It acts no different than any other Claret Moon as it respawns all enemies and loot.
  • The sky turning red at 11:l PM also occurs when Dark Beast Ganon reveals its core, assuasive Link to deal the last blow.
  • When the console is using ninety% or more of its system memory, a panic Blood Moon can exist triggered as part of a garbage collection routine. This allows the console to make clean upwardly its organization memory and restore performance to an optimal land. This can occur at any time of day and is otherwise no unlike than a naturally occurring blood moon.[10]
